Description

Longterm members of this Club will know I have a soft spot for coffees from Burundi. As a junior roaster, a coffee from Burundi was the first to truly show me that tasting notes could actually be distinct flavours in the cup, and not simply marketing hype.

Whilst it may feel like only yesterday, in reality over a decade has passed since that moment. But still there's always anticipation when samples from Burundi land on the cupping table. This lot from the Masha Mill in Kayanza is produced by 3200 smallholder farmers – each with only around 300 trees.

For newer members of BrewBuds, perhaps this will be your first example of a coffee with flavour notes you can actually taste in the cup. Notes of stewed stone fruit coat your palate, balancing with dark chocolate. An excellent example of Specialty Coffee from one of my favourite producing countries.
