Description
In the remote community of Argelia, there has been a history of armed conflict and illicit crop production. More recently ARGCAFEE (Association de Transformadores y Comercializadores de Cafe Especiales de Argelia Cauca), has worked with the community to help farmers substitute their illicit crops like coca for coffee.
The coca substitute program offers a nursery with disease resistant, high yield coffee varieties, as well as a guarantee of purchase at higher than average prices. This incentivises farmers to produce a legal crop, which has a positive impact on the safety of the whole community.
This microlot in particular is grown by 78 female producers in the region, with a further 44 producers keen to join in the coming years. Flavour-wise, we have a quality example of Colombian coffee. A rich dark chocolate body, with those underlying notes of plum that great coffees from this country are known for.
