Description
Second up in our run of Indonesian coffees is this lovely lot from the island of Flores. Fertile volcanic soils and elevations of around 1300 to 1500 meters above sea level make for ideal growing conditions for coffee. Higher elevations mean that the coffee cherries take longer to ripen, leading to more unique flavours in the cup.
The farm is managed by Marselina Walu, affectionately known as Mama Lina to the farm workers. A certified Q grader herself, Marselina is a community leader who knows just what it takes to produce specialty coffee. She is also an advocate for women’s participation in coffee farming and leadership.
It is so interesting to be able to taste these excellent examples from places I haven’t tried before over my years in the industry. It shows that with great climate conditions, and a lot of hard work by talented people, great coffee can be produced. Enjoy!
